Ich habe für das dropster bookmarklet gerade eine kleine Korrektur online gestellt: Titel werden jetzt bei Bedarf verkürzt, damit sie auf jeden Fall in den Top-Frame passen.

Mal eben eine lange, unhandliche URL verkürzen? Das ging mit dropster schon immer! Ein kleines Bookmarklet macht das aber jetzt noch einfacher. Einfach den Link – er findet sich rechts unter ‘‘Bookmarklet’‘ auf dropster – in die Lesezeichen/Favoriten ziehen und es kann loslegen. Das funktioniert auch mit unhandlichen URLs von Google-Maps sehr gut. Dort muss mal allerdings vor dem Dropstern einmal auf ‘‘URL zu dieser Seite’‘ klicken.

During the last week, we have added some nifty features to our one-click file-hosting solution. The two major additions are an embeddable upload form and a new page with link formats, including a flash player for audio and fideo files.

is now fully operational. Did I mention it’s a free and ad-less service? Whether you’re a freelance designer, architect or other knowledge worker, receiving files is now as easy as including two lines in your website template. File upload happens in a popup window so users are free to peruse your page while the upload happens.

On the first click, you are asked to register an email address where you want upload notifications to be sent to. After that, users can upload files and you get a notification when they do. The button is very easy to set up. Just using an image tag plus some Javascript has the advantage that no malicious spider will know about the link.

I have implemented an experimental feature to easily add upload functionality into websites (see button in the left margin). You just have to add two lines into your web page to be able to receive uploads (please remove the space in the opening script tag):

Please note that the usual src attribute on the image tag is optional and defaults to the 80×15 “drop me stuff!” button.

The Yahoo! upload widget for dropster has reached v0.3. The new release makes use of our new server APIs:

• the dropster URL is now returned immediately
• the upload status is displayed
• directories are recognized and uploaded as ZIP files.

The new release has yet to be tested on Windows. If you have problems with it: the previous release is still available.
